AFOA visual art program: *Honors the older adult’s ability to be creative and engaged when artistic projects and results are diverse and have allowed imagination to be prioritized. *The program inspires a sense of self-reliance. Even when the participant is somewhat reliant on a partner to help with materials use, the older adult is making all the aesthetic choices. *Research shows that the older adult’s mood and outlook improves with this creative experience. *Research also indicates pain levels and overall physical and mental health are improved.
Testimonial from Angela Rodgers, Enrichment and Wellness Director, New Dawn Memory Care, Aurora Colorado: “Because of the art activity being such a positive experience the participants will eat more this evening, be more amenable with staff and sleep better.”
